Original Prints by Beverly McNab
Beverly McNab is an established artist who has exhibited across Yorkshire. Much of Beverly’s work is based on the Northumberland coast to which she has a strong attachment. The course a print takes can be directed by the material she chooses and particular effects which might happen by chance. This is strongly combined with much time spent observing and absorbing the Northumberland coast and it is that combination and the intention of capturing the spirit of the area which drives her.
She works on plates for a long time, making changes which can be minute or radical. She loves the medium of collagraphy because of its endless possibilities for exploring texture and light. She finds the process itself exciting and inspirational.
Beverly trained at St. Martins College of Art and Chelsea School of Art. She spent some time teaching and now works principally in printmaking and ceramics.
An original print is one where the artist prints each image individually by mechanical means,
using ink and high quality paper. There are a limited number of prints produced. 3/20 means
that he print is the third out of twenty prints. Only twenty numbered prints were produced.
The artist can also print a very few extra prints perhaps three or four shown as A/P which
means artist's proof. Each print has its title and print number and is signed in pencil by
the artist.
In collagraphy a very fine layer of textures is glued or collaged onto a base plate. Ink is
applied to the whole plate and pushed into the textures. The surface of the textures is wiped
clean. The plate is placed on an etching press and dampened paper laid over the top. The
heavy roller is then pulled across so that the image is transferred to the paper.
